Winemaker's Collection Trio Rufete

We decided to take the experimental spirit of São Luiz Winemaker’s Collection even further and have thus created 3 entirely distinct wines which have only in common the fact they are made from one single variety – Rufete – a lesser known and rarer grape variety of the Douro that we are proud to grow. From Rufete emerges a brand new and surprising trio in a limited edition of 1.100 boxes, each containing the 3 wines.

The wine should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations. The bottle should remain in a horizontal position.

  • Rufete Red Reserva was handpicked over the last week of August 2021 at dawn. It was then transported in small crates to the winery, where the grapes arrived in perfectly health and ripeness. They were then kept in a cold chamber until the beginning of the winemaking process, which began with the partial destemming and light crushing of the grapes. The alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats for 12 days at temperatures between 22 and 24°C, followed by 5 days of maceration with skins on. The wine’s malolactic fermentation and its 12-month ageing was made in chestnut wood and Portuguese oak wood barrels and also in amphorae.

  • Rufete White Reserva was handpicked over the last week of August 2022 first thing in the morning. It was then transported in small crates to the winery, where the grapes arrived in perfectly health and ripeness. They were then kept in a cold chamber until the beginning of the winemaking process, which began with the careful selection of the grapes on the sorting table; afterwards, the bunches gently pressed, whole, to avoid the extraction of colour. The wine then fermented at controlled temperatures between 10-14°C. After the alcoholic fermentation, part of the wine aged in chestnut wood and Portuguese oak wood barrels and the remaining in amphorae. The final blend was at the end of 6 months of maturation.
